PA Hazmat Training and Education Conference celebrates 30th anniversary

Friday marked the third day of the 30th anniversary PA Hazmat Training and Education Conference.

Emergency responders from all fields gathered to learn about different hazmat situations and how to deal with them.

“Hazardous materials incidents don’t happen very often," said Chris Tantlinger, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Hazardous Materials. "We need very highly trained individuals to understand the properties of chemicals and hazards so our training and learning conference helps us to understand those better from people that may have had to respond or coordinate a response."

Hazmat trainings are particularly important in our state as Pennsylvania is home to 5 nuclear power plants and is prone to flooding as well as many other situations where hazardous materials are involved. Some common situations include accidents that involve vehicles carrying hazardous materials or even the improper mixing of pool chemicals.

The conference also offered the opportunity for vendors to showcase all the new and innovative equipment that is used in the field.
